Message from the Patron of SLIP
I am very pleased to participate in the Saskatchewan Legislative Internship Program as its patron. Through my past experience, as a founding member, with the Program – including serving as a mentor to a number of interns - I have been impressed by the quality of university students who have been attracted to SLIP. These are young people with excellent academic records, with diverse personal experiences and skills, and with a strong commitment to our province and to contributing to its future growth. My role as patron includes serving as chair of the Program’s advisory committee. This committee provides the governance framework for the Program. The Saskatchewan Legislative Internship Program is a unique opportunity for university students – and future leaders of our province – learn about the work of the legislature and about our democratic process. Regardless of the career paths that our interns may take, the experience and knowledge they gain from the SLIP experience will provide them insight and understanding of how political and public policy decisions are made. Hon. Dan D'Autremont Message from the Director of SLIP Ken Pontikes 2012 marks the Saskatchewan Legislative Internship Program’s tenth year of operation. Since its inception, 38 university students have participated in the Program. Many of our former interns can now be found in policy, advocacy, and administrative positions within government and other organizations. The program’s success depends upon the support and assistance from the 46 current and former members of the Legislative Assembly who have volunteered since 2002 to serve as mentors to the interns. We are also grateful for the financial and in-kind support that we have received from the Legislative Assembly; from our universities, corporate, and other partners and sponsors; from student organizations; and from our alumni. This website has been designed to provide an overview of the Saskatchewan Legislative Internship Program, as well as information on application procedures. I am happy to respond to any questions which may not have been addressed in this website. Ken Pontikes Tel: (306) 374-3873
